One of the showiest of all Beardtongues!
Penstemon grandiflorus is one of the host plants for the Chalcedon Checkerspot and Edith's Checkerspot within the western region of its range.
Large-flowered Beardtongue is loved by bees and hummingbirds and is drought tolerant. Other common names include Showy Beardtongue, Pink Beardtongue, Shell-leaf Beardtongue, Canterbury Bells, and Wild Foxglove. The plant offers beautiful vertical structure and silvery blue-green succulent foliage, making it a versatile player in the garden or naturalized setting
Endangered in some states, Penstemon grandiflorus is more common in the dry sand and gravel soils of the northern Great Plains and appears less frequently further south. Not often seen in the wild, it prefers full sun and requires excellent drainage - it will not grow well in clay.
Germination: Best planted outside in Fall or early Spring. If cold is past, place seeds in moist sand for 4 weeks at 40F to break dormancy. Sow seeds just below the soil surface at 50F. Keep moist, slow to germinate.

Wonderful seller! Can’t wait for blooms! They barely sprouted in the indoor greenhouse. I did not cold stratify but I did fluctuate by taking it out in a much cooler environment and back into the greenhouse and it finally sprouted. Will update with pics 🫶
Very excited to grow these!
