Texas Bindweed is a perennial morning glory vine native to Texas and the US Southwest. It is as tough as it is attractive, growing in dry prairie soils that are beat with sunlight. The flowers are like small morning glories that range from light pink to white with a red center, and the foliage is usually hairy mint-green colored and sword shaped. It is a non-aggressive climber.
The large seeds are eaten by quail, dove, turkey and songbirds, and the flowers are visited by small pollinators.
Texas bindweed is a desirable native and should not be confused with the introduced and despised field bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis. Texas bindweed does not form dense colonies like field bindweed nor does it spread by rhizomes as will field bindweed.
Germination: Hard-coated seeds need scarifying. Soaking in water may aid in germination. Sow in warm soil after frost and keep soil slightly moist.
