Embrace the beauty of the desert with the Desert Globemallow, a captivating perennial shrub that brings a splash of vibrant color and enduring charm to your hot, dry, arid, or desert native garden. Native to the arid regions of the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico, this hardy plant thrives in HARSH conditions, adding a touch of sophistication to even the most challenging landscapes. The Desert Globemallow's floral display is a true spectacle, attracting a symphony of pollinators, including hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, who find irresistible nectar within its petals. But the Desert Globemallow's allure extends beyond its captivating blooms. Its silvery-green foliage, adorned with soft hairs, provides a delicate contrast to the vibrant flowers, offering a soothing presence throughout the year. The leaves, with their intricate veins and lobed edges, add a touch of texture and visual interest, complementing the shrub's overall aesthetic. SOWING: To soften the hard coating on these desert globemallow seeds, rub them lightly with sandpaper or soak them in 180 degrees F water overnight. Mix the Sphaeralcea Ambigua seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 30 days before planting. Sow the seed in early spring, planting just below the surface of the soil. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination.
