Sesbania vesicaria, or Bladderpod/ Bagpod, is an annual legume native to Texas and Southeastern US that is a facultative hydrophyte and mostly found in freshwater habitats in wet pastures, disturbed areas, ditches, or wetland and non-wetland areas.
Bladderpod has beautiful hanging racemes of red pea flowers that become bladder or balloon-like seed pods. It has an airy, light growth habit
This is a great native shrub for the wet area of the garden, ditches and low flood areas, but can also tolerate some drought once established.
Grows up to 10 feet tall
Bladderpod is a larval host plant for the Duskywing Skipper (Erynnis zarucco)
Germination:
Sow seeds in Fall or Spring. Soaking seeds may help germination. Keep soil moist, seedlings can prosper moist-wet soil.
