Awnless Bush Sunflower is a very drought-tolerant perennial subshrub native to the dry and harsh central, western, and southwest portions of Texas, generally in rocky or sandy uplands. Although it prefers limestone and caliche, it can grow on other soils with good drainage. Works well in a xeriscape or rock garden.
This species has a short, mounding or bushy growth habit and attracts many different pollinators, and the seeds are sought-after food for songbirds. A win-win for everybody! Also the rough foliage can deter deer and other herbivores.
