Narrow leaf Coneflower is a rugged and showy, drought-tolerant perennial native to Texas and the Great Plains of the central US. It looks similar to Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) but is more tolerant of drought and poor, hot soils.
The threatened Ottoe Skipper's life cycle depends greatly on Echinacea angustifolia. The blooms attract many different pollinators and the seeds are eaten by some birds.
