Reverchon's Pennyroyal is a rarely grown Texas native with a very fragrant lemony, camphor scent. This is a small, mound-forming perennial, rarely topping 10–12 inches, that tucks itself happily into rocky ledges, caliche outcrops, and limestone hillsides across the Edwards Plateau, North Texas, and surrounding regions. From spring through fall it studs its wiry stems with tiny tubular flowers in soft lavender-pink, drawing in a steady stream of native bees and small pollinators.
It's an easygoing plant once settled in: full sun, sharp drainage, and next to no supplemental water are all it asks for. In fact, rich soil or too much kindness (overwatering) is more likely to do it in than neglect ever will. That makes it a natural fit for rock gardens, gravel beds, xeriscapes, or anywhere you need something tough, fragrant, and low to the ground.
