Roughstem Rosinweed is an incredibly hardy and drought tolerant plant native to Texas and the South Central US. Large, showy yellow flowers bloom atop tall, sturdy, and rough stems throughout the Summer. It functions as a great resource for many pollinator species. Prefers sandy, rocky, or calcareous soils with good drainage and dislike overly wet or rich soils.
The leaves are rough and sandpapery, similar to Texas White Rosinweed. It is an indicator of high quality prairies.

Silphium radula would be a great long-lived native plant for the backs of garden beds or in the tough, dry spots on your property.

Zones: 6a to 9b
Dormancy: Winter
Height: 70" tall
Sunlight: Full Sun

Germination: Best planted outdoors in Fall as most Silphium species need a long cold-stratification period, around 60-90 days. Or place in moist sand in ziploc bag in refrigerator for around 90 days.
