Sweet-Tart Seduction: Grow Your Own Exotic Tamarind Fruits!
Forget bland, predictable fruits. These tamarind seeds hold the key to a flavor explosion that'll tango on your tongue and pirouette on your palate.
Whip up candy-coated delights, whip up zesty chutneys, or stir some magic into curries and drinks.
Tamarind is the perfect exotic snack. Its shelf life is up to 3 months! They are great as a healthy sweet snack in the great outdoors (I pack them in hiking gear)
These potent little seeds dream of becoming lush trees, dripping with pods you can pluck straight from your own backyard.
USDA Zones: Outdoors 9-11 with frost protection; Patio/Greenhouse 4+
Very young trees should be protected from cold but older trees are surprisingly hardy.
Tamarind is a fine-textured, beautiful tree that prefers full sun in rich, well-draining soil.
It is tolerant of a variety of soils, even clay, and is not particular about the soil’s pH.
Water your tree the first year and fertilize it every 2 to 3 months while it is establishing.
Prune the tree to keep it in shape and remove any dead wood
Germination Procedure: Soak seeds in hot water for 24 hrs before planting. Sow seeds 1/2 deep into warm soil, ensuring seeds and soil stay moist throughout the germination phase. Seeds germinate within 2 weeks in 70-80 degree temperatures.
